Leon Payne (1917-1969) was a blind, multi-instrumentalist country performer and songwriter. His career spanned several decades from the late '30s onwards. He wrote "I Love You Because" which Elvis had a big hit with, and "Lost Highway" , one of Hank William's best known songs, as well as hundreds of others. He will always be remembered fondly by me though for the following wonderfully cheerful number. As far as I know, he never recorded it himself . Here's my favourite version performed by Eddie Noack. Listen and be truly afraid !
